5 Ways to Practice Positive Mindfulness in Today’s World

Mindfulness is a powerful practice that helps you focus on the present moment. It encourages you to become aware of your surroundings and practice self-compassion without any judgment. Being mindful of your current situation boosts your mental health and gives you the power to overcome different life challenges.

Let’s be real; living in the 21st century is no easy feat. There is always an endless list of chores that needs to be done. Exams, pressure, deadlines, heavy workload, laundry folding, commuting to work… The hustle and bustle of a busy routine drains your energy and takes away your ability to enjoy the present moment. Am I right?

Luckily, there are many ways to practice positive mindfulness, and I decided to share some of the best ones below:

1.      Meditate and journal

If you feel like your mind is all over the place, you definitely need to try out meditation and journaling!

When you wake up in the morning, spend a few minutes journaling. Make your favorite coffee/tea, take a pen, and start writing your thoughts on a piece of paper. Ask yourself questions like;

  • What am I feeling right now?
  • How can I make my day better today?
  • What are my intentions for the day?
  • What are things I am grateful for today?

This is an amazing way to get in touch with your thoughts and give God the opportunity to show you all the blessings around you. It also improves your overall well-being by helping you understand your emotions.

Meditation, on the other hand, is a mind-body exercise that shifts your attention to the present moment. It helps you become more mindful of your surroundings instead of thinking about past or future events. Moreover, it also helps you to control anxiety and manage stress.

2.      Go for a walk

Going for a walk in nature helps you spend some time alone and reflect on the things around you. It also stimulates your senses and calms your anxiety.

The best part about this exercise is that you can easily incorporate it into your busy lifestyle.

3.      Take care of your body

Mindfulness involves a series of self-care activities that help you get stress relief. Taking care of your body involves; exercising regularly, fueling it with healthy and nutritious food, doing things that bring you joy, and accepting yourself without judgment.

Once you learn how to love yourself, you’ll start seeing the positive things in life. As the Bible says, "Love your neighborhood as you love yourself. (Mark 12:31 NIV)" before loving other, pour out love on you.

4.      Practice breathing exercises

Mindful breathing is a simple yet powerful exercise that can improve your life. It makes your body release endorphins (happy hormones), which relieve stress and control anxiety effectively.

The purpose of this is to focus on the present moment and get rid of negative thoughts. Here’s how you can do this;

  1. Sit in a quiet, peaceful place, close your eyes, and take a deep breath.
  2. Focus on your breaths as you inhale and exhale. Notice what you are feeling during this process.
  3. Take deep breaths and let your emotions flow. Repeat the process for a few minutes.

5.      Be intentional in your everyday interactions

Another great way to practice mindfulness is to be intentional in daily interactions. So, instead of scrolling aimlessly through Instagram or Facebook, you can spend that time with your friends or family.

Mindfulness means performing everyday activities with an increased sense of awareness. It’s the best way to manage stress, reconnect with your inner self, and live a well-balanced positive life.
